Molly Asplin: A Chat About Passion in Your Career
Molly Asplin: A Chat About Passion in Your Career

On today’s episode, I have a short episode about something that gets brought up quite a bit: passion when it comes to careers. Do you need passion in your career? Is it okay if you don’t? I dig into realignment and how shifting focus can lead to fulfillment in more ways than you realize.

Talking Points:

01:06 You Can’t Force Passion

06:56 Your Work Should Align with You

12:28 Don’t Be Afraid to Try

You Can’t Force Passion

I never really felt a connection when I was working my corporate job, and I had a conversation with someone who told me, although I may find passion in pieces of the job, I won’t feel whole in this line of work because no one can force passion. It doesn’t mean to say that you can’t feel alright with your life if you don’t have passion for your job, but if it’s draining you, that’s when you really need to consider a change because it can make a huge impact.

Your Work Should Align with You

You might be saying, yes, my job is draining and I do need to make a change, but what exactly does that look like? Start by focusing on a new challenge, something that levels up your excitement and purpose. Passion in your career can be in the career itself, or it can also look like using your career as a conduit to your passion. You don’t have to look for the perfect career, you simply want to look for something that’s going to be more aligned with who you are.

Don’t Be Afraid to Try

There are people who have ideas and aspirations for more, but don’t think they can just drop what they are doing right now. Take advantage of the word “and”. You can do what you’re doing now AND start trying something new. You’ll be more fulfilled and have a better sense of accomplishment if you try it out. Think about how your current job aligns with your life as well. Work toward something that pairs well with the life you want to live.
