Today’s episode is a follow-up to another episode I posted a while back detailing changes my family and I were going to make to prioritize our well-being and find a good work-life balance. (Episode 109 for those who didn’t get a chance to tune in!) In this episode, I’m here with some updates and discuss the importance of structure, communication, and introspection in making these impactful changes.
Talking Points:
00:02 Restructure
I just wanted to share a bit about the big changes and lessons my family and I have gone through this past year. Steve and I have been feeling like we’re just running on a hamster wheel, and we realized we needed to do something different for our family. So we took a hard look at our lives and decided it was time to scale back on work and take the kids out of full-time daycare. It’s been quite the journey, with its own set of challenges, but we’ve learned so much, especially about how crucial it is to have structure and good communication.
05:09 Work-Life Balance
We’ve been thinking a lot about what we need in terms of structure and purpose, and that’s led to some deep conversations about our roles and responsibilities at home. Steve and I have been taking some time to really think about what we want our future to look like, considering our work hours, stress, and even the possibility of career changes. I can’t stress enough how important it is to find a work-life balance that feels right for us and our family’s needs.
14:30 Time Management
Balancing my business goals with family time has been tough, but I’m committed to making sure that family comes first. These changes have been so positive for us. We’ve seen such an improvement in our family’s energy and the kids are having great experiences outside of being in daycare all the time. And you know what? My time management has gotten so much better. I’m finding that I’m more productive even though I’m working fewer days.
19:54 Evaluating
Constantly talking with Steve about our dreams and how we can support each other has been key for us. It’s been really important for me to step back and think about what’s truly important in life and to make sure I’m living in a way that reflects those priorities. Taking these steps involved some calculated risks and a lot of financial planning, but it’s all been in the name of our family’s happiness and well-being. I’m a big believer in continually evaluating the choices we make and making sure that, at the end of the day, we’re okay with those decisions.
