Becky Baxter: Why Building and Nurturing Genuine Connections in Business Matters

On today’s episode, I have Becky Baxter, a wife, mom of two girls, and a previous top leader of a $8 Million Dollar direct sales organization. She received awards for recruiting, developing leaders, and sales and organizational volume. In 2021 she transitioned to podcasting, coaching, speaking and creating. We decided to speak on the topic of relationship building today instead of doing a traditional interview style podcast since this is such an important piece to running a business.

10:42 Genuine Connections Lead to Positive Growth

44:24 Takeaways From Past Experiences

Genuine Connections Lead to Positive Growth

We kick off the conversation by starting at the beginning as a new entrepreneur and what it takes to launch your business. Many people feel like they don’t have a large enough audience to get started, but the digital world offers more opportunities than you realize. It also takes branching off of the people that you do know by building and forming genuine connections.

Building Your Client Base on a Personal Level

Sending out mass messages used to be a way to build a client base, but today it’s important to focus on quality over quantity. There’s no personal connection in doing something like that, it’s better to come up with a list of people who you personally feel would be a good fit to reach out to. From there, ask for permission to share something. Think about if they could benefit from what you have to offer.

Connect with People Physically Around You

Virtual connections can lead to many roads of growth, and there are ways to add a more personal touch to it, but don’t forget about everyday life. There are opportunities to build connections right in front of you on a daily basis. In person connections are the ones that people are really going to remember, and it provides an opportunity to not just sell, but to create something bigger.

Takeaways From Past Experiences

Own up to mistakes you’ve made and learn from them. Make sure to understand the human side of things. Don’t be pushy or make people feel undervalued. Be genuine, understanding, and gracious. Connect both professionally and personally. Keep connecting, don’t just connect once and be done. Take advantage of community and events with likeminded people.
