Hey friend — welcome back to another episode of the Dream It, Do It Podcast. This one’s a bit of a heart-to-heart. 💛 As we step into the rhythm of summer (and as I guide our Set Yourself Up for Summer Challenge inside the Dream It Do It membership), I’ve been reflecting on what success really means — especially after walking through a major career transition of my own.
I found myself uncovering some beliefs I didn’t even realize were still hanging around — like tying my value to how productive I am, how many tasks I check off, or how much money I’m bringing in. Sound familiar?
Ever felt like your value was tied to your income or how many hours you work?
It’s not about grinding out forty-hour weeks or chasing a number on your paycheck. It’s about meaningful work, time freedom, and truly being present for your family and yourself.
Let’s challenge those old narratives, focus on what matters most, and build a version of success that actually fits your life right now. Join me as we figure out how to work smarter, live intentionally, and create a life you genuinely love.
In this episode, I’m opening up about what I’m currently unlearning when it comes to:
- The traditional 40-hour workweek and why it may not be serving you anymore: Many people, especially those who’ve been in the corporate world, believe that working forty hours a week proves commitment or seriousness.
- Letting go of the belief that your worth = your income: Often, people tie their self-worth to their job titles or salaries. Society reinforces this by using money as the main measure of value.
- Shifting from task-based productivity to purpose-aligned time: To break out of time-based thinking, consider shifting to a task-based approach. I encourage my clients (and myself) to focus less on “hours worked” and more on tasks completed and goals achieved.
- Creating rhythms that support your family and your energy: prepare for time shifts in your schedule, especially during summer when kids are home more. In my “Set Yourself Up for Summer Challenge” inside the Dream It Do It membership, I share practical tools – including charts and templates – that have helped my family sync our routines, cut back on screen time, and be more present with each other.
Building a life that’s rich in time, connection, wellness, and meaning — not just money.
- Time Wealth: Control over your schedule and ability to be present.
- Financial Wealth: Having enough resources but not letting money be your only metric.
- Social Wealth: Investing in relationships and making memories with loved ones.
- Physical Wealth: Prioritizing health, energy, and fitness so you can fully engage in life.
- Emotional Wealth: Feeling fulfilled, joyful, and at peace with your choices.
If you’ve ever felt burned out by the long work hours, questioned what you’re really working toward, or craved more alignment between your life and your goals — this episode is for you. My hope is that it gives you a little space to breathe, reflect, and redefine success on your terms.
Rethinking Success Beyond Salary: “if I’m not making as much, am I still successful? Am I still valuable? And I think we really need to reframe the worth and income conversation because it really can keep you stuck.”
