It’s OK To Hate A Great Job

In today’s solo episode, I talk about careers, why you don’t need to feel guilty about not liking what you’re currently doing, and why you shouldn’t be scared to make changes to find more fulfillment and joy. If you are unhappy, start with small steps in reaching your goals to live the kind of life you actually want to be living.

Talking Points:

02:21 Worries and Fears

06:26 Just Try It

16:01 Seasons

19:26 Finish Strong

Worries and Fears

There are many people who don’t like their jobs, even ones that are considered “good” jobs. They don’t feel energized or driven by the work and have a hard time getting up in the morning. Oftentimes, people feel like they have to keep working that job out of guilt that they should like it, feel like their identity could be shaken, or have a fear of failure if they were to make a career change.

Just Try It

Fear holds people back from change, but it doesn’t have to be a go-all-in kind of situation. Get something moving to see if you can make it happen and if you want to keep going with it. You’re going to have to try (for at least a year) to get the ball rolling and to see progress. You’re never going to know what’s possible if you don’t put in the time and effort.

Seasons

It’s best to dream for the season that you’re in versus trying to look at this big overwhelming picture. Think of the near future and the things that you want for yourself and your loved ones. Make sure you are putting ideas into action in order to move the needle forward one step at a time. You will see progress over time by putting things into place.

Finish Strong

If you’re working your long term job and start pushing toward something new, make sure you finish strong with the job you’ve been doing. How you do one thing is how you do everything else. You don’t want to slack in one spot because it will reflect on how you kick off your new endeavors. So continue to work hard and finish strong.
