On today’s solo episode, which I am recording a month or so after the birth of my son, I wanted to come on and talk about big life changes while I’m in the thick of this season. Big changes can come in many different forms, maybe it’s in business, a move, your routine, or growing your family. While you’re navigating these changes, it can be so helpful to know what worked for someone else.
Talking Points:
01:10 It Will Probably Get Messy
03:47 Relationship and Family Adjustments
09:40 Personal Adjustments
13:40 Baby Prep in my Business
19:20 Do What Feels Good for You
It Will Probably Get Messy
We were thrilled to welcome our baby boy, Will, into the world. Head over to my Instagram if you’d like to hear the full birth story. In preparing for this change in our family, people had been saying to expect to lower your standards and know it will probably get messy.
Relationship and Family Adjustments
I always love hearing from moms that went before me, so I’m happy to share what I’ve learned so far about going from two to three kids. The girls have been so helpful and excited to be big sisters. It feels really similar to the adjustment from one to two kids, but I think the biggest adjustment for Steve and I is that there is no down time. What has really helped us is communicating everything. Be open and clear, don’t expect your spouse to be a mind reader.
Personal Adjustments
As far as adjusting for myself, I definitely felt the baby blues, and I know this is part of the process. If you’re dealing with really difficult postpartum depression, definitely seek help. Physically, I’m feeling pretty good, but I’m taking it easy and taking care of myself. I know my physical activity will come back, but I’m embracing where I’m at now with my body.
Baby Prep in my Business
Being self-employed was a challenge for me when entering motherhood the first time around. For my third baby, I did a lot of prep work. I batch recorded a bunch of podcasts, I did a lot of long-range planning and I selected guests to lead my team calls. I was also able to meet my client goals beforehand. These things helped me feel super confident like I had a good pulse on my business.
Do What Feels good for You
While it’s great to have the flexibility of being self-employed, there is a level of care that keeps me somewhat involved in the business. It all depends on what you want and what feels good for you. It’s okay to allow yourself to show up in a different way in this season.
